Eligibility for Education Loans:
Eligible Courses
All recognized degree, diploma, postgraduate, or professional courses with strong career prospects
Loan Amount (Quantum of Loan)
Minimum: BDT 4 Lakhs
Maximum: Up to BDT 1.5 Crores
Security / Collateral Requirements
Up to BDT 4 Lakhs – No collateral required (in most nationalized banks)
BDT 4 – 7.5 Lakhs – Third-party guarantee (typically a blood relative)
Above BDT 7.5 Lakhs – Tangible collateral security + co-obligation of a parent/guardian + future income assignment
Accepted Collateral Includes:
Residential or commercial property
Fixed Deposits
NSC or LIC policies (based on surrender value)
Co-Applicant Requirements
Must be an earning family member (e.g., parents, siblings, spouse, in-laws, uncles, or aunts)
The student (applicant) and co-applicant must jointly sign the loan documents
Loan Repayment Details:
For loans above Bdt 4 Lakhs, 15% of the amount is to be borne by the student
Banks typically finance up to 85% of the cost
Some private institutions offer 100% financing
Tax Deduction:
Students or parents who borrow directly for overseas education are eligible for tax deductions under Section 80E of the Income Tax Act.
